Jorginho’s Arsenal contract talks are ‘at a standstill’, reveals his agent – with the Italian midfielder’s current deal up at the end of the season

  • He has only started four out of twelve Premier League games so far this season

Jorginho’s contract talks with Arsenal are ‘at a standstill’, according to the midfielder’s agent.

The 31-year-old’s deal with the north London club currently runs until 2024 after he signed an 18-month deal from Chelsea last January.

However, his agent Joao Santos confirmed that ‘everything is at a standstill,’ adding: ‘We’ll think about it after February. However, the priority remains Arsenal.’

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been a big fan of Jorginho, but he has only started four of Arsenal’s 12 Premier League matches.

While he has been a valuable asset for European games, there are talks of a desired return to AC Milan for the former Chelsea man.

Asked previously about returning to Italy, Jorginho said: ‘I’ve doubts as I’d like to return but I don’t know when is the right moment.

‘I want to return to Italy but I feel to have still many things to achieve at Arsenal, I want to fight for titles there.’

But, with the Italian’s contract expiring at the end of the season there’s certainly no guarantee he will stay at Arsenal.

He may be called into action, however, as the Gunners face Brentford on Saturday at 5.30pm.

Playing away against Brentford has proved to be a tough fixture, so Arteta’s side will be hoping to keep their good form up.
