Liverpool stars ‘wowed’ by Dominik Szoboszlai ability which may alter tactics

Are we seeing Jurgen Klopp 2.0 at Liverpool? | Football Digest

Liverpool stars have reportedly been ‘wowed’ by Dominik Szoboszlai’s shooting prowess ever since he joined from RB Leipzig in the summer. Szoboszlai scored a stunning goal in the Reds’ Carabao Cup victory over Leicester on Wednesday.

The Hungarian took aim from 25 yards, powerfully driving the ball off the underside of the bar into the top corner to give Liverpool a 2-1 lead. Jurgen Klopp’s side came from behind to beat the Championship side 3-1 at Anfield.

Szoboszlai’s strike was hailed as a ‘grenade’ by Klopp, such was the ferocity of the effort. But it is not the first time the 22-year-old has stunned his colleagues since arriving at Anfield.

It has been claimed that Liverpool’s players have been impressed by his shooting ability ever since his first training session at the AXA headquarters. According to The Times, Szoboszlai’s team-mates were ‘wowed’ by some of the goals he scored.

“It was very special. I don’t know if it was the best goal,” Szoboszlai reflected afterwards. “I scored one of my best in the national team and also in Salzburg. But one of the best for sure.”

Teams in the Premier League and Europa League may now be especially careful to close down the playmaker. That, in turn, may prompt Klopp into some tactical tweaks to ensure he continues to get the best out of his in-form ace.

Opposition players closing down Szoboszlai may now create lots of space for Liverpool in the final third. Klopp may now ask the attacking midfielder to attempt more through balls to see if the Reds can make the most of the space vacated by defenders as they look to stop him shooting.

“I don’t have to tell him to shoot, he knows that, he knows better than I that he has a pretty good skill,” Klopp said after witnessing Szoboszlai’s goal.

“The next one, which goes slightly over, is another grenade. You can see that in Premier League games, everyone tries to block him, that’s why he didn’t come through yet – but if he comes through there’s a good chance the ball could be in. A super goal.”

Szoboszlai has been a key part of Liverpool’s unbeaten start to the season, with Klopp’s side winning five of their six Premier League matches so far. Liverpool will now embark on a tricky run that, should they navigate successfully, could prove they can challenge for the title again.
