Positives were hard to come by for Manchester United following Wednesday's 4-3 loss at Bayern Munich, but one player's contribution stood out more than most.

In fact, many supporters are convinced Sergio Reguilon might just be the club's 'new best player' after the loanee looked impressive in his Champions League debut for United. And it was a determined first half display when all was going against Erik ten Hag's side that registered with a lot of fans.

The Red Devils went in at the break trailing 2-0 at the Allianz Arena, with Andre Onana's howler allowing Leroy Sane to score before Serge Gnabry added a second. And while most players were catching criticism for some limp displays during the first 45 minutes, loan signing Reguilon proved an anomaly as he attracted praise.

"Never thought our best player in a 2023 UCL game would be Sergio f***ing Reguilon," wrote one incensed supporter. Another fan posted a picture of the Spain international in United colours alongside the caption: "Only one player shows will to fight."

"Regulion is unreal, how did he flop at Spurs" asked another amazed at the player, who was signed on loan from Tottenham following an injury to Luke Shaw. And a fourth added: "Reguilon has been the only stand out performer for United today."

Should Man United attempt to sign Sergio Reguilon permanently? Let us know in the comments section below.

It was during the first half at the Allianz that Reguilon managed to impress attacking in tandem with Marcus Rashford down United's left flank. Makeshift Bayern full-back Konrad Laimer appeared to struggle under that pressure at times, and much of the visitors' good fortune came from that side of the pitch.

Casemiro's brace and Rasmus Hojlund's maiden goal for United made for a brighter second half, even if Harry Kane's penalty and a deft Mathys Tel strike did settle the 4-3 win for Bayern. It hasn't taken long for Reguilon to find his rhythm among United's squad, with some supporters already urging the club to make the move permanent next year.

Reguilon, 26, has joined United for the remainder of the campaign after failing to convince Ange Postecoglou of his status at Spurs. However, there is a break clause in his contract that allows could see the player return to his parent club in January.

There's of course still room for Reguilon to improve despite impressing in Germany, but his mentality and enthusiasm to contribute when United's morale was at its lowest is what has some fans raving. A few more performances like that, and Ten Hag may have to consider a permanent plunge for the player – though there's no such clause in his loan deal.
