Man Utd grab 98th-minute equaliser as Women’s team summon ‘Fergie time’ miracle

The spirit of 'Fergie Time' was on hand after Manchester United clinched a dramatic 2-2 with Brighton after Rachel Williams' 98th-minute equaliser.

The WSL side went behind twice during Sunday's (November 5) clash but goals from Ella Toone and Williams secured a point for Marc Skinner's women. Late goals for Man United have become a habit this season having scored five goals after 80 minutes with three of those coming in stoppage time.

Fans on social media noticed the team's penchant for last minute equalisers and winners with one X user writing: "i see #ManUtd women get plenty of fergie time too" while another was displeased with how much added time there was in the game as they wrote: "How the hell the match reached 100 minutes, there was maybe a minute wasted in injury and subs but 3 more minutes given to see whether United can score. Play fair".

While Sir Alex Ferguson departed as Manchester United manager in 2013, the infamous 'Fergie Time' phenomenon where the iconic Scot would pressurise officials to add on time on occasions where United would need a goal seems alive and well.

It was a second stoppage-time goal from Williams, 35, this season as she admitted she's got a knack of striking late in games. "It's becoming a bit of a habit for me," she told Sky Sports. "I'm itching to get off the bench and help the team and it's paid off. It's all a bit of a blur, but I've got the goal again."

While they did secure a point, United boss Marc Skinner was disappointed about the result that leaves the side sixth in the table.

"We need to take three points. You create that amount of chances you have got to take them," he told Sky Sports. "We want to be better than that. It's great that you come back but we shouldn't have to come back. We created enough to scored five or six and we need to take accountability and be better than that."

Four teams in the league are all on 10 points with reigning WSL champions Chelsea leading the pack with 13 points from their opening five games.
