Pep Guardiola’s side are top of the league after seven games but Arsenal can leapfrog them if they secure victory at the Emirates on Sunday.

Arsenal are attempting to land their first top-flight title since 2004 after City narrowly beat them to last season’s trophy.

City defeated Arsenal in both league meetings last term but the north Londoners came out on top in August when the two sides met in the Community Shield.

Speaking after Arsenal lost 2-1 to RC Lens in the Champions League on Tuesday, Gunners captain Odegaard said: ‘It was not the best game for us.

‘We have to keep going, learn from it and make sure we bounce back in the next game. That’s all we can do now, we have to move on.’

Asked if the showdown against City was the perfect game for Arsenal to bounce back in, Odegaard added: ‘Of course.

‘It’s a big game coming up. Everyone is excited for the game and it will be a good game to play.

‘We have to look forward, make sure we are ready to be sharp on Sunday. It would be a nice boost [to go above City]. It’s a massive game but it’s early in the season so we are just focusing day-by-day, making sure we are improving all the time.’

Declan Rice, meanwhile, has warned City that Arsenal are ready to ‘give it absolutely everything’ on Sunday.
