Teen sensation swapped milking cows and running rodeo shows for football stardom

From milking cows and running rodeo shows to mixing it in of the biggest leagues in Europe – and this teenager is only just getting started.

Savio Moreira de Oliveira, better known as Savio, grew up on a cow farm in Sao Mateus, Brazil and helped out by collecting milk and assisting in the running of rodeo shows in order for his family to pay their way.

Playing football locally, he was then scouted at the age of 10 and taken on by the youth academy at Atletico Mineiro – making his highly-anticipated first-team debut under current Argentina boss Jorge Sampaoli at 16.

After 35 appearances, the youngster decided to join Troyes for an estimated £4million in Ligue 2, spending last season on loan at PSV and impressing in their B team.

This season has proven to be his European breakthrough in LaLiga, with three goals and four assists across the first 10 games of the season – and he's still only 19.

Helping Michel's side to second in the table with eight wins, a draw and a single defeat from 10 matches, the Catalonia based team have already secured memorable wins over Sevilla and Villarreal among others and are second behind Real Madrid on goal difference.

Speaking of his rise, Savio has said: "At home we have a cow farm and I always lived there. We make milk and also put on rodeo shows. It’s very nice. I had always lived on the farm, enjoying a very quiet life, then suddenly I moved to Atletico Mineiro.

"When I was 10 years old they came looking for me and told me they wanted me. First I went on my own and then my mother came and stayed with me until I was 18."

Marca Junior Chavare is credited with discovering the player in Brazil – and he never had any doubts regarding his ability to impress at the highest level.
