Pitch invader knee slides during FA Cup tie before getting dealt with by police

An FA Cup pitch invader performed a full knee slide in front of home fans before being carted off by police.

AFC Wimbledon took on non-league Ramsgate in the second round on Monday night, with the League Two side coasting through 5-0 to book a third round date with Ipswich Town. Ramsgate were followed to Plough Lane by a vociferous travelling army of supporters. However, one let the side down by encroaching onto the pitch.

Not only that, the individual ran the full length of the pitch, slid on his knees and then proceeded to goad home supporters behind the goal. That was the end of the fan’s action for the night as he was swiftly tackled by stewards and police and wrestled to the floor before being handcuffed and marched away.

“What a melt,” said one Wimbledon fan. Another said: “Not great but the way the steward and police took him down was a bit over the top. He wasn’t waving a weapon around or being anything other than a p***ed up loon. They just about managed to not taser him.”

Ramsgate started the evening as the lowest-ranked team left in the competition and were behind after just eight minutes when Ali Al-Hamadi pounced on a loose pass before feeding Jake Reeves, who rifled a powerful strike into the top-left corner.

The hosts doubled their advantage when Iraq international Al-Hamadi poked home at the far post following a melee in the box, and it was three when Josh Neufville stroked the ball into an empty net in the 43rd minute.

The Isthmian League South East side kept fighting, with their best chance of the half falling to Lee Martin, but his close-range effort flew over the crossbar.
